FAMILY RESCUED FROM DANGEROUS HOME ALMOST COMPLETELY DEVOURED BY TERMITES IS FEATURED ON BUILDING A DIFFERENCE
Jacksonville, FL – Building a Difference features an incredible documentary about a family whose home was almost completely devoured by termites and how Northeast Florida Builders Care rescued them just in time.
Ethlyn George, a single mother of five children, brought her family to Jacksonville, Florida from St. Croix in the Virgin Islands in the late 90’s. She purchased what she thought was a safe brick house. “I wanted to protect my family with someplace nice that would go well for the kids,” Ethlyn George said during her on-camera interview.
However, when Ethlyn’s young boys accidentally put a hole in their bedroom wall, they discovered something that shocked them. They discovered termite damage…bad termite damage. “It wasn’t wood…It was terrible,” she said. “It was dusty and I was coughing.” Unfortunately, it was more widespread than she could have ever imagined. The damage went throughout the entire house.
“I was absolutely shocked when I saw her home,” said Chris Simons, Builders Care Director of Operations and Building a Difference TV host. “There were no studs left in the walls, and Ethlyn’s roof was caving in over her bed. To be honest, I really didn’t know how that house was still standing.”
Her home was about to be condemned by the city. With no money to make desperately needed repairs and nowhere for her family to go, Ethlyn had almost given up hope until the day she met Northeast Florida Builders Care. Builders Care rallied its good-hearted volunteers, and with the help of remodeler Brian D’Amico and ProSource Builders, Ethyln’s home was completely rebuilt to a safe home for her family in just six days.
“You won’t believe your eyes when you see how bad this house really was,” warns Mick Richards, producer/director of Building a Difference. “When demolition began on the house, we discovered the entire wood framing was almost completely disintegrated into nothing but powder. The family’s very lives were at stake and they didn’t even realize it. This powerful documentary tells an amazing story of how the good-hearted volunteers of Northeast Florida Builders Care came together to rescue a helpless family from a severely dangerous situation.”
The George Family’s story is being featured on Building a Difference, a home makeover TV series that features non-profits and construction ministries who are truly building a difference in the lives of people in need. The series airs twice a week on TBN (Trinity Broadcasting Network). The George Family: Part One will air Tuesday June 16th at 12 noon EST, and Part Two will air the following week on June 23rd.

NEW WORLDWIDE TV SERIES “BUILDING A DIFFERENCE” FEATURES NON-PROFITS
DeepLight Entertainment debuted its worldwide home makeover television series Building A Difference to a worldwide audience in February 2009. Building A Difference focuses on people, organizations and ministries all around the world that are truly building a difference in the lives of people in desperate need. The show debuted on the Trinity Broadcasting Network (TBN), which is the world’s largest religious network and the most watched faith channel in the United States, reaching nearly one hundred million households nationwide.
In its first volume, Building A Difference features the work of Northeast Florida Builders Care, a non-profit construction ministry of the Northeast Florida Builders Association. This unique grassroots organization is a heart-felt response to the never-ending need of seniors and disabled people living in unsafe environments. Since 2001, Builders Care has completed more than 700 projects, repairing homes, building wheelchair ramps and constructing facilities for the elderly and disabled who cannot afford these services. Building A Difference has produced several short documentaries that tell beautifully uplifting stories of how a blend of aggressive construction ethics and courageous volunteer efforts helped restore precious lives.
“We believe this first volume of Building A Difference captures the true spirit and heart of organizations such as Builders Care,” explains producer/director Mick Richards of DeepLight Entertainment. “You will see why they are so successful at what they do. And you will share the experience of how they are being used in such a mighty way by simply doing what they do best – building a difference.”
When TBN held a contest searching for new programs, DeepLight Entertainment Producer/Director Mick Richards submitted the idea of a 2-hour documentary he shot about Builders Care, a local church and community volunteers joining forces to remodel the home of a severely ill man with ALS, with a wife and six children. Richards also reviewed with TBN a local show he produced with Builders Care about remodeling a home to make it more accessible for a couple who were severely injured and disabled in a motorcycle accident.
Watching builders, suppliers, subcontractors and volunteers provide labor and resources for these projects, caught the attention of TBN. "This is just the kind of program I have been looking for,” said Isaac Hernandez, Executive Producer of TBN Programming. “I believe this program will not be just a great program for TBN but will also awaken a great desire in people to have compassion for those in need and get involved."
“Our local TV show has made Builders Care a household name in Northeast Florida,” said Bill Wilson, Builders Care executive director. “I can’t imagine - given the huge success the shows had in Jacksonville - what a 90-million worldwide audience will do to us.”
“It sounds as if the program is going to be an uplifting show that shows off the good work taking place here in Jacksonville,” says Mayor John Peyton of Jacksonville, FL. “Builders Care has established itself as a can-do charity that makes a remarkable impact on the lives of those they help. Taking their story to 92 million homes will serve as an inspiration to countless numbers of organizations and volunteers. I hope ‘Building A Difference’ becomes the foundation for continued success for future DeepLight productions that bring wholesome entertainment into homes everywhere.”
The host of the ongoing series is Chris Simons, currently Builders Care’s project leader and Pastor. With his dedicated leadership and construction skills, he has helped Builders Care renovate over 700 homes in Jacksonville since the organization was founded. Chris has also provided pastoral services to the elderly and disabled people that Builders Care serves. His training and experience works well with his heart and is truly building a difference in the lives of those in need.
The first episode of “Building a Difference” debuted Tuesday Feb. 3 and airs Tuesdays at noon and Thursdays at 6:00 EST on TBN. “Building A Difference: The First Volume” DVDs and soundtracks is in production now and will be available summer 2009.
